Have you been hearing the term ‘Snow rails’ used a lot but aren’t sure what they are?  Well don’t worry!  Snow Rails are simply another term for Snow Guards, which are a small device that essentially guards your property and loved ones from snow that could avalanche on top of them. They work by acting as a barrier to hinder snow as it slides off the roof, meaning that only small amounts fall off at a time and the rest stays behind the now rails until it melts in the sun.  

Snow rails or snow guards can be purchased in either metal or plastic formats, depending on the type of roof you have.  Though plastic snow rails are very popular, it is often found that metal snow rails work best on metal roofing as sometimes the combination of metal roofing and plastic snow guards was causing brittleness.  This meant the snow guards were breaking in the cold.   This doesn’t happen too often, but it’s best to talk to an expert to find the best kind for your roofing needs.  Fortunately there are all kinds of plastic and metal options, in a variety of colors and shapes, so make sure to shop around to get what you need!
